The Gila River is famous for its rich Indian history along with its beautiful natural scenes and forests. The Gila Indian reservation is important in this regard. Gila River is situated in the state of Arizona in the United States of America. It is important for the fact that it is the part of border between the United States and New Mexico. The river has a long history which can not be completely expressed in a summarized form but the important things in this regard are stated here to state the great history of Gila River. In ancient times it was the most developed and prosperous region of the continent. If we trace the very first invaders of this land, the Spanish enter would be traced. The Spaniards brought the various types of plants and animals to this region which is still found around the river.
The river basically emerged from the mountains of Arizona and phoenix. When the river reaches the Indian reservation it takes the form of multiple streams and act as the irrigation channel for the related land. In 1848, the river was made a part of border between New Mexico and United States of America but in 1853, United States extended its border to cover land across the river. There were numerous historical places and remains in the Gila River surroundings that revealed the native Indian civilization which unfortunately vanished due to floods in the river. There are no remains of the past but still the location is a centre of attraction for the visitors. There are many fish species which are found in this river. Many of them have extinct from the face of earth due to the excessive hunting and fish consumption. Cat fish with flat head and a channel type are famous species of this river. The Gila trout is the most delicious type of trout and is a preference of tourists as well as the local population. Moreover, there are many tribes living in this region.
The river people or the Akimel O'odham have been living here many years before the invasion of Spanish people. Basically the Spanish people come here to explore the land like the British afterwards. But the most successful nation was the British as they well occupied and developed this region until the Americans sought liberation from them. The religious belief of the tribes living around the river was to consider the river Gila as sacred.
