The locality was established in 1917 through a purchase on behalf of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. However this used to be a settlement for Native Americans. It became a town in 1946. As of 1985, the Goodyear (Valin Thak) locality was declared a city. The last remaining part of the Goodyear Tire acreage was sold for development in the mid 1980s.
